Kick Arse Country

We asked Noel a few questions about his music career, here's what he said.

1. Where were you born ?

Noel:

Brisbane

2. When did you become interested in becoming a musician ?

Noel:

I became interested in becoming a musician when I was in Primary School. They had a drum & fife band that marched all the students into class every morning and the last 3 years at that school I became a 'band' member as the drummer.3. When did you start playing instruments and what type was it ?

3. When did you start playing instruments and what type was it ?

Noel:

It was the drums, it all stemmed from my exposure to them during primary school.

4. When was your first gig and how did it go ?

Noel:

My first band gig was at our High School Fete. The drummer in the band broke his leg at football training & I asked if I could audition. I was asked if I could play 'Proud Mary' by CCR. I passed the audition and got the job.

5. What are some of the highlights of your career as a musician ?

Noel:

I played with a Qld band called 'Felix' & we became 'Qld Band of the Year' in 1978. That band was also hired to back 'Chuck Berry' in two shows at 'Top of the State' in Brisbane. Also in 1980 I was in a Sydney band called 'The Honeymoon' who signed to E.M.I. Records and we recorded an album for them. During that time we played on Countdown & met 'Molly Meldrum'.

6. What type of music has influenced you, and why ?

Noel:

I have been influenced by many bands especially modern contemporary bands who had top class drummers. I have always been interested in vocals & have sung vocal harmonies & a few lead songs in every band I have been in.

7. So why country music ?

Noel:

When I came to live in Hervey Bay I contacted an old friend of mine Rob (our lead guitar player) & he had two people who were interested in getting a Country Rock band together to play in the Wide Bay region. After 3 different lineups Rick joined the band & 'Kick Arse Country' have been going from strength to strength ever since.

8. Who are a few of your favorite country artists ?

Noel:

Alan Jackson, Lee Kernaghan, Big & Rich & Luke Combs

9. What do you enjoy about playing with Kick Arse Country ?

Noel:

I enjoy the diversity of both Country and Rock songs we play. Also we have a strong vocal & harmony blend which the audience really enjoy.

10. What's your vision for the future ?

Noel:

My vision for the future as a player is to stay fit & well & be able to play drums as long as I still enjoy & have fun, as much as I do now.  It is a very physical instrument to play.

That's all folks !
